This is a general survey course, with major emphasis on the post-Civil War period. Part I will study topics to include the Civil War, reconstruction of the South, industrialization of the US and the labor movement, imperialism, the progressive era, and World War I.
Part II will include the roaring twenties, the depression, World War II and the cold war, civil strife and the 1960s and the events of the 1970s and 1980s.
